Fr. Walter Carreiro is a native of Fall River, MA. Father was raised in a Portuguese bilingual/bicultural home, growing up as a parishioner at Saint Michael Church where the received the Sacraments of Initiation. His first penance and First Communion were administered from then, Monsignor Humberto S. Medeiros. After beginning his formation at St. John’s Seminary, Brighton, Fr. Walter left to enter formation for the Catholic Foreign Mission Society of America, known as Maryknoll. After only one year of formation he moved to California where he taught Spanish at Justin-Siena H.S. Returning to the Boston area he continued teaching Spanish and was involved in Campus Ministry at Xaverian Brothers H.S. After completing theological studies at Pope Saint John XXIII National Seminary, he was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Boston on May 20, 1995. He first assignment as Parochial Vicar was at Saint Anthony Parish, Cambridge (1995-2000), then Saint Thomas of Villanova, Wilmington (2000-2002). He was appointed administrator of Saint Michael Parish, Hudson (2002-2004) prior to his appointment as pastor there (2004-2007). After the retirement of Fr. José S. Ferreira, he returned to Saint Anthony Parish, Cambridge and was named pastor by Cardinal Seán in 2007 and has continued to gladly serve the parish. As of December 2011, he was named administrator of Saint Francis Parish. Fr. Walter has served on the Presbyteral Council with both Cardinal Law and Cardinal Seán. He served two terms as Vicar Forane of Region IV of the Central Region, is currently on the Board of Trustees of iCatholic Media and teaches Portuguese at Saint John Seminary.
